†††††††††††††††††††† JAMES KALASKY WINS 350TH Ė 70 RUNNERS PARTICIPATE

†††† James Kalasky won the historic 350th lunch hour 5K in a time off 20:22 with 70 runners participating. This was James 2nd win in the lunch hour 5K.The 70 runners is the 3rd most ever in the lunch hour 5K.We had a record 84 runners for our 200th 5K in Jan 2001 and 71 in our 100th 5K in September 1992.Rounding out the top 5 were 65 running in July 2010 for the 300th 5K and 65 running in March 2005 for you 250th 5K.Thanks to all that participated today!

†††† Our first race was set up by Jim Heller and Tracy Brown and was run on a ľ mile dirt track about 100 yards from the current fitness center in April 1981.The 2nd race wasnít held until May 1983 and the third race was held in March 1984 and then became a monthly event. And today, 33 and Ĺ years later we ran our 350th lunch hour 5K!

†††† Four runners ran today that also ran in the 1st, 100th, 200th 300th and 350th 5K.They are Rick Salas running his 237th race, Jim Heller running his 200th race, Ed Loh running his 89th race and Nelson Slagle running his 330th lunch hour 5K.The four runners have now ran 856 lunch hour 5Kís or 2654 miles the distance between Seal Beach and 24 miles past Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We are anticipating in arriving in Philadelphia in June 2015 and it will only have taken 34 years! It can be driven in about 42 hours!

††††† I am missing times for six runners as follows:Priscilla Bejaramo, Andy Born, Brigit Miller, Greg Temple, Rich Terrell and Jerry Vasquez.†† Rich, who did you walk with?†† Please e-mail me your times?

††††† Our 70 runners included 15 first time runners, 3 runners running their 200th or more races, twelve running their 100th or more races, 35 running their 30th+ race and 52 running their 3rd+ race .

††† Of the 51 runners I have a birthdate for, 9 who ran today were over 70, 27 were over 55, 38 were over 50, and 47 were over 40 years old.†††††††

†††† Soula Thomas became the first runner over 90 to run today thus her time of 46:54 becomes the age group record.†† Soula becomes the first runner to hold the age group record in three age groups (70ís, 80ís and 90ís).†† John Strand set the record for oldest male runner at 80 and 5 months and the record for anyone in their 80ís with a 30:27 time.

††† Many runners from years back came to run today.Greg Temple last ran in April of 1998, Stephanie Temple last ran our 5K in June 1999, Larry Mah last ran in Sept 2004, Brian Werner last ran in in July 2010 and Dale Londre last ran in August 2010.†††

†††† Six runner established person bests (PB) in this race led by Steve Jacobson who lowered his PB by 2:03.John Strand lowered his PB by 1:01, Audrena Cheung-Liv by 48 seconds, Robert Lubanski by 29 seconds, Armon Kolve by 26 seconds and Stephanie Temple by 15 seconds.Stephanie Temple broke her PB set in June of 1995, over 19 years ago.I donít recall ever seeing a PB record broken as long as 19 years ago.In August Stephanie ran the Colorado 58 miler. The trail race consisted of approximately a marathon, half marathon and a 18 miler on 3 consecutive days in the Colorado mountains.Stephanie finished the 3 runs in 15 hours and 48 minutes.†† I am worn out just typing it!!Congrats to all.

†††† If I missed you in any of the stats or donít have your birth date (month and year) please e-mail me at neslagle@hotmail.com with the correction.††††

Dave Parsel race streak of 73 straight races ended today as he was in New Hampshire for an annual half marathon that he runs. This was the 3rd longest streak ever. The current longest streaks are now owned by Emmett Rahl at 65 straight races and Nelson Slagle with 33 straight races.

††††† Thanks to Rick Salas for making the banner and Ed Cohn for bringing brownies.
