DAVE PARSEL WINS FEBRUARY 2011 5K IN 18:10

Forty-four runners participated in the February 14, 2011 5K as Dave Parsel won his 117th race in a time of 18:10.  Rounding out the top five were John Araujo 2- 18:58, David Hicks 3- 19:34, Randy Parker 4- 19:45 and Brian Arabori 5- 20:13.

The 44 runners were the most in the month of February since 2003.  It is also the first time we have had 3 straight months of 40+ runners since 2003.  Thanks to all that ran.

Brian Arabori, 12 years old, ran the fastest time ever by any runner under the age of 15 with a 20:13 time.  Congrats Brian.  Also running was 13 year old Zachary Kern who finished in 24:48.  It was the first time we have had two runners younger than 15 years of age running in the same race.

Eight runners established personal bests (PB) led by Cliff Cousins who lowered his PB by 4:42 seconds.  Others setting PB’s were: Brian Arabori (3:12 lower), Stephanie Born (2:59 lower), Mathew Nethers (1:54 lower), Sheila King (39 seconds better), Manny Vizinho (34 seconds lower), Raji Shunmugavel (31 seconds lower), and Bridget O’Callaghan-Hay (8 seconds lower).  Congrats to all.

We appreciate runners participating even though they are not at 100% conditioning.  This month Emmett Rahl ran the 5K after completing his first 100 mile run in 29 hours and 42 minutes in Texas nine days ago.  Emmett is still sporting some nice blisters but still ran today’s 5K.

Tony Trujillo was running injured today and when discomfort appeared, Tony just stopped running and walked the reminder of the race.  Thanks guys.

The next 5K is scheduled for 11:50 AM Monday, March 14 at Gate 510 on the northwest corner of the Boeing Seal Beach Facility

Hi Nelson, Elizabeth and I are busy planning this April's race (April 2nd at 8 AM) and we wanted to say hi and work with you to get the Boeing run club more involved this year. We want to offer the Boeing employees a very low registration price if you or the main contact in the office can help coordinate everyone. We will get a special registration form printed up which can be distributed around the office.
We have also been working with Vanessa Pereda in the community investor office to see if we qualify for Boeing's sponsorship since we are non-profit and all our proceeds go to support other non-profit and Cancer support groups.
 Marc & Elizabeth Kane

The race web site which contains the registration form is: www.SealBeachRun.com

Registration forms are also available in the Seal Beach and Huntington Beach fitness centers.

As usual we will meet at the tennis courts adjacent to the sign-in area at 7:45 AM for a Boeing group picture.
