DAVE PARSEL WINS JOAN MCINTYRE INVITATIONAL 5K

Forty-six runners participated in the Joan McIntyre Invitational 5K on a picture perfect Southern California day on August 9, 2010.    The race was dedicated to Joan McIntyre who was diagnosed with inoperable cancer in both lungs within the last month.   Dave Parsel ran a 17:54 to win his 111th race.   Rounding out the top five were Brian Conboy 2- 18:13, David Schiller 3- 18:16, John Araujo 4- 18:32 and Chase Calkins 5- 19:10.

This was the first race since April 2004 where we had four runners 18:32 or faster.  The 46 runners in today’s race is the most for the month of August since 50 ran in August 2001

Six runners established personal bests led by Mark Miyahara who lowered his PB by 46 seconds.  Other runners establishing PB’s were:  Chris King (39 seconds better, Diana Law (15 seconds better), Jon Steinberg (3 seconds better), Tim Sydlowski (3 seconds better) and Stanley Mak (1 second better).  Diana Law and Chris King lowered their PB for the 3rd time in the last 4 months.  Mark Miyahara lowered his PB for the 3rd time in six months.  Congrats to all of the PB setters.

The next 5K is scheduled for 11:50 AM Monday, September 13, 2010 at Gate 510.
