NELSON SLAGLE LEADS BROTHER JIM BY ONE POINT AFTER FIRST ROUND OF 2008 NCAA TOURNEY
      Nelson Slagle leads Jim Slagle by one point with three others within nine points after one round of the NCAA playoffs.  Twenty of the 25 teams the 11 predictors picked to finsh
in the top 16 won their first game.  Jim's 1st 14 picks are still alive, Dick and Nelson both lost their 14th & 15th picks.  Nelson's advantage in round 1 is his wildcard team of Davidson
     North Carolina was concensus favorite by our 12 predictors averaging 1.5 average place vs 2.2 for UCLA.  All 1 and 2 seeds were picked in everyones top 16
Seven picked NC to win it all while 2 picked UCLA and 2 picked Kansas to win NCAA.  No one picked the Buckeyes in top 16 - thought they might get
     Nelson Slagle scored 456 points to 452.5 points for Phil Hensley and Dick Hammerstrom and 450 for 4th place Jim Henning to win the 2007 NCAA predictions.   some sympathy votes!   Bring on football!!  Power house Pac 10 conference 3-3 in the first round while  woeful Big Ten was 3-1.

Bob and Jim also picked OSU 2nd.  The NBA playoffs start in 2 1/2 weeks.       Nelson won the 2007 NIT championship thanks mostly to Air Force and West Virginia.  Nelson picked W. Va 2nd and only
Dick Hammerstrom and Bob Thomas picked them in their top 4.  Nelson first pick, Air Force won 3 games.  Clemson, the loser
in the finals was only picked by two predictors and both were 4th (Bob and Randy Lang).  Nelson won the NIT for the record 3rd

His 9 point win tied Gerry Hamilton's win over Jerry Slagle in 1999 for the biggest margin.

NELSON RIDES AIR FORCE TO CLINCHING WIN IN QUARTERFINALS
     Phil Hensley has 258.5 points to 257 for Nelson Slagle, 254 for Dick Hammerstrom and 252 for Rick Higgins in a wide open race after two rounds. Phil has his Nelson took a 27-19 lead over Bob Thomas and Randy Lang.  Nelson has his 1st and 2nd picks left.  Bob and Randy have 3rd and 4th
first 9 picks and 12 of the Sweet 16 is his picks.  Nelson has his first 7 picks and 12 of 16 left.  Dick has his first 8 picks and 12 of 16 left and Rick has his first HENS HOLDS ON TO 1.5 POINT LEAD OVER SLAG WITH 8 TEAMS REMAINING teams left and cannot catch Nelson with two games remaining.  Air Force got a late field goal to defeat DePaul 52-51 in the
8 picks and 12 of 16 remaining.  Nelson is the only predictor to still have his wild card team remaining (Tennessee).  But needless to say Nelson will be rooting Quarterfinals.  The four #1 seeds are in the semi-finals!

Although I still can't  believe the Buckeyes won! HENS 258.8, SLAG 257, HAMMER 254 AND RICK 252 AFTER 2 ROUNDS      Nelson's four teams in the NIT have all won their first two games to give him a score of 20.  Bob Thomas and Randy Lang
both have 16 as only their 1st team lost in the 2nd round.  Nelson's four teams have won both games by at least 13 points
except Syracuse which only won their first game by 6 points.  His first pick, Air Force, has won by 24 and 31 points.

     The 14 NCAA predictors predicted Florida at an average place of 2.5 to 2.8 for OSU, 3.6 for Kansas, 5.4 NC and 6.3 for UCLA.   Everyone had Florida in their top 4 PHIL HENSLEY LEADS GERRY HAMILTON BY 2.5 POINTS AFTER FIRST ROUND AL MANZEY RIDES SOUTH CAROLINA TO NIT PREDICTION CROWN

The 14 predictors picked 12 different teams as their wildcard team.  Nine different teams made someone's top 4.  Michigan in the finals to win their 2nd straight NIT title.  Five of the top 6 predictors had Michigan in their top 6.  Jim Slagle finished 5 points behind Al and ended in 2nd

FLORIDA SLIGHT FAVORITE OVER OHIO STATE FOR 2007 NCCA TITLE JIM AND NELSON SLAGLE TIE FOR 2005 NIT PREDICTION CONTEST
     Rick Higgins won the NCAA portion of the NCAA/NBA predictions by finishing 21 points ahead of Jim Henning.  The top five and total points are:  Rick Higgins 408,      Jim and Nelson Slagle tied for the NIT prediction title.  They both had Maryland 1st and St Joseph 3rd.  St Joseph lost to South Carolina
Jim Henning 387, Bob Scholl 360, Nelson Slagle 342 and Jim Slagle 340.  Rick is so far ahead of 3rd (48 points) and beyond, he has a huge leg up on the combined in the finals 60-57 in another great finish.  St Joseph made a tieng 3 point shot with about 6 seconds remaining.  South Carolina didn't even call
NCAA/NBA predictions.  Ricks picks were superb.  He had Florida 3rd, two places higher than anyone else.  Twelve of 17 predictors picked Florida 10 time out.  They dribble up court and made about a 35 footer at the gun.  No one had SC in their four tealms and Jim, Nelson and Al Manzey were the
