CHASE BEMILLER WINS FIRST SLAG BUCKEYE OPEN PUTTING TOURNAMENT
Chase Bemiller, a senior at Santiago High School  in Corona won the First Slag Buckeye
Open Putting Tournament held at the Slag Country Club on September 1-8, 2012. Chase
shot an even par 18 on the scarlet course then shot a one under 17 on the gray course to
finish with a 35, one stroke better than runner up Jim Slagle who shot 36 with a 16 on the
scarlet course and a 20 on the gray course.  Chase's 17 was the best score on the gray
course and Jim's 16 was best score on the scarlet course.
Chase had one birdie and one bogey on the scarlet course.  His birdie was on the 41 foot
7th hole, the toughest hole on the scarlet course.  That was offset by a bogie on the first
hole.  Chase knocked in t-shots on the 4th and 6th holes on the gray course sandwiched
around a 3 on #5.
Chase is the son of Tom and Dawn Bemiller who were the owners of the company
that installed the putting green in Slag's back yard.
Four players tied for 3rd with scores of 37.  The ties were broken based on best score
of holes starting on the last hole played on the gray course and working backward. As
noted by the red blocks above.  None of the four shot an ace on the gray course thus the
tie was broken on who last had a bogie.  Kevin Diaz had pars on the last 11 holes to take
3rd, Tim Raab had pars on the last 3 holes to end up 4th and John Wilford ended 5th with
pars on the last two holes.
A certificates was awarded for low female score won by Ali Cafferty who won the tie
breaker over Beth Padgett as both shot a 45.   There were 24 in the tournament and three
were female.
Ten of the 24 contestants were from our tract.  Kevin Diaz was low with a 37 but since he
already was awarded a certificate for finishing 3rd, the certificate goes to Will Hendry
who shot 39 the same score as Mark Lowe.  Will won on the tiebreaker as noted above.
Joshua Lowe was awarded a certiicate for  shooting the best score by anyone under
40 in the tract.  And Matthew Lowe was awarded a certificate for his technical support
he has provided upgrading the course.
Two participants came from out of state.  Steve Derus came from Nevada, just south
of Reno and Ray Placentia came from Tennessee.
Nine of the 24 contestants shot 39 or better and five more shot 40 for the 18 holes.
Jim Slagle was the only putter to score two aces on the scarlet course while Chase
Bemiller and Joshua Lowe were the only two ace players on the gray course.
All pictures of certificates awarded are on the web site.
Thanks to all that putted in the tournament.
